My Tribute to Paul Scholes

I rarely write a non-news stuff on my blog. But today I just want to blog about the retirement of Paul Scholes, my favorite Manchester United player.

If you really know me you will know that I am not a kind of people who use the word "favorite" on things and people I just "like" and this is why I wanna write this blog dedicate to you the number 18 of Manchester United.

Week in and week out, on any given Saturday (or maybe Wednesday - commercial kinda mess up Football lately) I will turn on TV and watch your game - your killer passes, , your dribble, your screaming long shots. Your football is a true beauty yet you always find yourself in a red-mist situation when your tackles are just so awful that it hurt the team but that what makes you so special, all the surprise along the consistency that you have during all these years.

You are wonderful on the pitch and a role-model off the pitch. Your humbleness is what standing off other United legend like Becks or Ronaldo. And your humbleness taught me a lot, it reminds me how to handle all the things I have achieved (if any) that is to keep quiet and keep trying harder and wins more.

You meant so much to me during my childhood. Your long shots made me play a midfielder every time I play football. My favorite number is 18. When I am on Football Manager, the first player I give a coaching contract after retirement is you. You are truly a joy to watch in the field. Your goal against Inter Milan in 1999 pave the way to United's Treble. Your goal against Barcelona in semi-final was magical and it meant even more now after we defeat to Barcelona twice in Final.

Thank you for everything. I rarely regret things but one thing that I will regret forever is how I have never get to watch you play in a competitive game. Just watching your touches of football would be blessed. Thank you for every joys you gave to me. You will be missed. And my son will hear about you.

Pep Guardiola : "Out of everyone at Manchester United, I would pick out Scholes - he is the best midfielder of his generation, I would have loved to have played alongside him."

Tony Adams : "I really rate Paul Scholes, because he hasn't got the high profile of many of the Manchester United players, he doesn't get too much attention, but he is one very good player. He is an intelligent player, he works hard and he scores some great goals. He is not flamboyant and is a quiet lad off the pitch but he is a tremendous asset to Manchester United and to England. He has already got my vote as player of the year."

Sir Alex on Scholes (2003): "Everywhere I go the coaches all tell me that Scholsey is the player they admire."
Fergie: "Gary Neville was having a piss one day, 45 yards away by a fence. Scholes sent a long ball and whacked him right in the arse."

Peter Schmeichel :
"People say he is a great player, but you have to define what a great player is, For me, it is a player who has a bottom level that means his worst performance is not noticed. If he is having a bad game, a team-mate might feel Paul Scholes is not quite on his game, but a spectator wouldn't notice. Scholes, of all the players I have played with, has the highest bottom level. His reading of the game is unsurpassed. He has an eye for a pass, for what the play or the game needs at that precise moment, that I have never seen anyone else have. He controls and distributes the play and the game better than anyone I have ever seen."

Joey Barton:
Just heard Paul Scholes has retired, best I've ever played against by a mile. Most technically gifted player in english history. Legend

Phil Neville: Sad day today paul scholes retiring-going to miss watching him play, what an example of how to live ur life, class class act-love him!!
I used to love seeing him receive a ball he had eyes in the back of his head he knew were everyone was on the pitch!
I used to love seeing him charge into tackles-he did that in training too!

Thierry Henry : "I can't understand why Scholes has never won the player of the year award. He should have won it long ago."

Xavi: “He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more.”

"I am not a man of many words but I can honestly say that playing football is all I have ever wanted to do and to have had such a long and successful career at Manchester United has been a real honour. This was not a decision that I have taken lightly but I feel now is the right time for me to stop playing. To have been part of the team that helped the club reach that 19th title is a great privilege" .- Paul Scholes retirement statement.
